Required Marks Calculator

Find out what score you need on the rest of your grade to hit a target.

How it's calculated

This calculator works backward from a target grade to tell you what you need to score on your remaining work: Remaining weight = 100% − weight completed so far Required score on remaining = ((target % − weighted score so far) ÷ remaining weight) × 100 If the required score comes out above 100%, your target isn't achievable with the remaining weight — you'd need to have scored higher earlier. If it's 0% or below, you've already secured your target.

Worked example

You've completed 60% of your course weight and your weighted score so far is 45% (out of that 60%). You're aiming for an overall 70%. Remaining weight = 100 − 60 = 40% Required score on remaining = ((70 − 45) ÷ 40) × 100 = (25 ÷ 40) × 100 = 62.5% You need to average 62.5% on the remaining 40% of your coursework to finish at 70% overall.

Frequently asked questions

What is "weighted score so far"?
It's your contribution to the final grade from completed work only — not a plain average of your scores. If unsure, use the Final Grade Calculator on just your completed components first, and use that result here.
What if the required score is over 100%?
It means your target grade is no longer mathematically possible given what you've scored so far and how much weight remains — you'd need to revise your target downward.
What if the required score is negative or zero?
You've already secured your target grade based on completed work alone, regardless of what you score on the rest.
